Outdoor Activities

Bessie Branham Park was recently renovated with new tennis/basketball courts, a ball field, and playground as well as a $2 million recreational center that opened in 1998. The recreation center has a gym, workout equipment, and a state-of-the-art computer center with classes that are free to Atlanta residents. Coan Park is Kirkwood’s largest park. The family-friendly park boasts tennis courts, a basketball court, baseball field and playgrounds. Gilliam Park is situated along the old trolley line. The park currently features green space, a bike trail (as part of the PATH), and a community garden.

Walk & Ride

Kirkwood is located along the PATH, a system of scenic greenways preserve our region’s forested character and offer opportunities for families to enjoy nature together. The PATH Foundation continues building a network of off-road trails in and around Atlanta for walkers, runners, cyclists and skaters.

Charlie Yates Public Golf Course (with driving range) in East Lake (less than one mile from Kirkwood) offers reduced greens fees to residents of the 30317 area.

The East Lake Family YMCA is a full-service, family-centered facility that opened in late 2001. They offer a spectacular fitness facility, plus programs geared to youth, adults and seniors. They also have meeting rooms for community activities and a computerized learning center.
